Venue
The Conference will take place at the center of Budapest, in the main building of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The building is located at the Pest side of the river Danube (map), opposite to the Buda Castle.

Travel to Budapest
Budapest is accessible by plane, or by trains and buses. International flights to Budapest arrive at the Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD).

From the airport
Public transportation: At the airport one needs to take the bus 200E and get off at the metro terminal called "Kobanya-Kispest" (takes 22 min., timetable. From here metro line 3 takes you toward the city center. Tickets for public transportation are available at the airport from the BKK customer service point. Each ticket costs 350 HUF. For more information on tickets click here.
Airport shuttle: A more convenient way to travel is using the airport shuttle. This option is cheaper than taking a taxi, but you will travel with other passengers in a minibus. You will find more information about this this service from their webpage.
Taxi: The most convenient way to leave the airport is to take a taxi (suggested especially for small groups). The taxi station can be found at the exit of the airport, a trip toward the city center costs around 30 EUR (9000 Ft).

Travel to the conference site
The central building of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences is located at the riverside of the Danube (address: 1051 Budapest, Széchenyi István tér 9. map) near to the famous chain bridge. With public transport it can be accessed by metro line 2 at the "Kossuth ter" station, from where one need to walk 10 min, or take one stop with the tram no. 2 toward "Kozvagohid" direction, and get off at "Szechenyi Istvan ter".

Travel to the Astronomical Institute (26-27 Oct MC meeting, 30 Oct WG5 meeting)
The institute (address: 1121 Budapest, Konkoly Thege Miklós út 15-17., map) can be reached by metro line 2 and bus no. 21 or 21A. Get off the metro at "Szell Kalman ter" station (former "Moszkva ter" station) and take the bus no. 21 or 21A (it starts from this square). If you get on 21A you need to get off at the last stop ("Normafa") at the top of the hill. From this location you need to walk 5 min. toward west along the "Konkoly Thege Miklos" road. (When arriving at Normafa station it is strongly recommended to take a short walk toward east where you will find a large meadow with nice panorama to Budapest toward the slope of the hill.) The bus no. 21 keeps on travelling further, and turns left at Normafa (where bus 21A has its final station) and you need to get off at the next stop after "Normafa" called "Csillagvizsgalo". Right next to the bus stop you will find a garden gate with instructions on it.

Local transport in Budapest and maps
Public transport in Budapest is quite good. For the participants of the conference we suggest to buy passes like 72 hour pass (4 150 Ft), or the weekly pass (4 950 Ft) even if you do not stay 7 days as 3 and 7 day passes, since these are less expensive than buying single tickets for each ride (if you do not have a pass then you need to buy separate single tickets for each vehicle you use). You might buy your pass at ticket machines (with English texts on it), the first ticket machine can be found right at the bus station of the BUD airport. It is not dofficult to use, but good to became familiar with it beforehand at this demonstration website. Note the machines work only with Hungarian Forint, but right after your arrival you could change at the airport and use the machine at the airport.

Local currency
The local currency is the Hungarian Forint (Ft or HUF). Euro is accepted only at limited locations, like in larger supermarkets. We strongly recommend to change some money to HUF.

Local weather
The weather is changeable in October with occassional sunshine and rain. The average daytime temperature is around 10-12 Celcius degrees while at nighttime it's around 3-5 Celsius. Please check the weather forecast some days before the conference at http://met.hu/en/idojaras/ .
